Strand book store - book lover's paradise!!!

I know I have already spoken about this amazing book store here. However, I do not think I have spoken  highly enough of it. Every time I go back to the Strand bookshop, it amazes me even more.
I think I could spend the whole day in this home to 18 miles of books. I am sure you will find there whatever you are looking for book wise. As its website says: "new books, used books, rare books, out of print books, art books, and..." I have said before, a must go destination for book lovers in New York.

Life in NYC is truly beginning....Inspiring thoughts :)

Couldn't agree more ;-) Sometimes we have to shake it up and go for it. Everything is possible!!!

I did get out of my comfort zone and it happened to me. I have a job in NYC!!!!!! So happy :):):):) Now, I can say my life in NYC is truly beginning. Very excited with this new challenge. So happy to say bye to my housewife days. After nearly 7 months, I am ready to focus on my career again.

Couldn't have made it without the support of my dear friends and family. Thank you very much people!!!!! Love you all so much <3

Phrase of the day :)

Life has been so hectic this week that I haven't had time to write here :( But it is all for a good reason though. I have been interviewing and full of hope I will get my dream job in New York. Fingers crossed!!!!!I am very happy and feeling very positive!!!!!!! Hope I will have good news to share with you very soon.

Those expat feelings...Nathaniel Hawthorne

Talking about life as an expat reminded me of this beautiful text written by the American author Nathaniel Hawthorne in the book "The Marble Faun". I came across this text for the first time in 1997, when I went to my first overseas experience in London. Back then, I was sixteen and went to England to do my A-Levels (the British equivalent to America's high school). OMG!!!! It was yesterday lol

"The years, after all, have a kind of emptiness, when we spend too many of them on
a foreign shore. We defer the reality of life, in such cases, until a
future moment, when we shall again breathe our native air; but, by and
by, there are no future moments; or, if we do return, we find that the
native air has lost its invigorating quality, and that life has
shifted its reality to the spot where we have deemed ourselves only
temporary residents. Thus, between two countries, we have none at all,
or only that little space of either in which we finally lay down our
discontented bones. It is wise, therefore, to come back betimes, or
never."

Bear in mind this text was written in 1860....One wonders nowadays how some expats feel with families becoming more and more international and the world becoming smaller and smaller? :) It is indeed a roller coaster journey, full of different feelings. It makes me feel so alive though!!!!

I like thinking that home is where your heart is as well. And I try to keep mine in the present. And the present for me at the moment is in New York. It is very hard being away from family. But sometimes I feel closer to my family being far away. Does it make any sense? 

I know things can change tomorrow. But tomorrow is another day, isn't it? 

By the way, I am so happy to be part of the Expat Women community. The stories are so beautiful and inspiring!!! I will have to dedicate a post to talk about this amazing community I have become part of. Thank you lovely ladies for sharing such amazing stories with us :) Definitely worth a visit if you have not been there yet.

Moncler @ New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter - 2012/213 - Awesome!!!!

The first, second, third time I saw this video I had goosebumps all over!!!!!! What a beautiful tribute Moncler paid to New York during the last Fashion Week. Truly amazing and unforgettable way to showcase the label's new fall/winter collection. This show took place on the 12th of February at Central Park ice rinking in one of the coldest nights we had this winter. How much better can it get???? :)

I had never heard about him but as soon as we walked in I was mesmerised by his bold pieces and the messages written on some of them. Inspiring messages - Quotable Cards

Browsing at Posman Books inside Chelsea Market (have to write a post about it very soon!) this week, I have found these lovely cards by Quotable Cards. To be honest I had never heard or noticed the name of this company before. All I can say is that I have fallen in love with the messages on the cards. I feel like buying them all and sending to all my dear friends and family :) Could not agree more with the company's logo saying "Kind words never die". Maybe this is what we need in this crazy world - not much apart from kind words. Just reading these lines made me smile and I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

I love this video and I love Diane :-) She talks about New York in such an inspiring way.

I walked by the DVF's headquarters at Meatpacking District today and it reminded me about this video my beloved sister sent to me as soon as I knew I was moving to New York.

London & New York City - cities made of big dreams

No doubt New York has a very different energy. All the lights, the skyscrapers, the restlessness, but above all, what makes big cities such as London and New York so special are the people. One of the best descriptions I have found whilst researching about the city was written by the American writer E.B White on his book Here is New York:

"There are roughly three New Yorks. There is, first, the New York of the man or woman who was born there, who takes the city for granted and accepts its size, its turbulence as natural and inevitable. Second, there is the New York of the commuter--the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night. Third, there is New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something. Of these trembling cities the greatest is the last--the city of final destination, the city that is a goal. It is this third city that accounts for New York’s high strung disposition, its poetical deportment, its dedication to the arts, and its incomparable achievements. Commuters give the city its tidal restlessness, natives give it solidity and continuity, but the settlers give it passion. I love this excerpt and identify myself with the third group :) Still not sure what I am after, but I am sure I will find out at some point. Moving to London was a sort of quest as well. There I found out about myself, my other better half and the sort of person I would like to become.  As I said before, feeling part of the world was always my goal. Here I am in another completely different situation, following my husband's steps. In London I found love and about myself, here in NY I do not have a clue. Honestly, if someone had said 1 year and half ago that I would be moving to America, I would have laughed. Life is absolutely crazy!!! That is why it is so fascinating at the same time :)

In the meantime, while I try to work out what to do here I day dream, write and feel blessed for the opportunity to be living in this amazing city.  

Must confess sometimes I walk around with my ipod very lound listening to Empire State of Mind lol It does feel good and I sing along!!!! #crazyandhappymoments :)
